When you talk about the pungent rasa in the tempering, are you working with fresh spices or dried? My experience is the tikta profile shifts a lot depending on that.

Quick question on the bitter-astringent combinations mentioned — are these meant to be used every meal or only in specific seasonal contexts? The article touches on intent but not on frequency.

The therapeutic intent framework here is genuinely useful. I cook dal almost daily and never thought about the hing + jeera tempering as a deliberate Vata-pacifying rasa combination until I read this.

Loved reading this but building these spice profiles from scratch does take real time. Any chance of a simplified weekday version — maybe just two or three key rasas rather than the full combination?

The point about sour rasa stimulating agni is well-made, but citing which classical text or at least which Vaidya tradition supports the specific flavor combinations would make this a lot easier to share with skeptical friends.

The grandmother anecdote is lovely but the article does lean heavily into the "cooking as medicine" framing without much pushback. Would be stronger if it acknowledged that not every kitchen tradition got the rasa ratios right.
